Healing Space

Shimmering Tree Counselling & Wellness has two locations: an office at 614 Battle Street, in downtown Kamloops, as well as a larger claycob studio office on the shore of Paul Lake, BC.

Paul Lake Studio

Along with personal counselling and therapy, I offer a number of nurturing wellness opportunities at the Shimmering Tree Studio. These include: MindHeart Healing Arts sessions, weekly Chakradance expressive dance & mandala-making groups, weekend ‘Feeding My Fire’ mindfulness-based expressive arts mini-retreats (1 day) and workshops (2 day), Mindfulness in Motion, and a Cocooning space.  (Read more in Wellness)

The weekend mini-retreats and workshops aim to support youth and adults, often women in various stages of life, in cultivating stillness, insight, experiencing themselves as sacred, recognizing and releasing negative beliefs and emotions, having nourishing corrective experiences, strengthening and connecting with their ‘joie de vivre.’ They make this connection through art-making, being with nature, yoga, meditation, visualization, dance and mindfulness-based self exploration and expression.

I integrate a coherent flow of yoga, meditation, visualization, self exploration, processing through art and/or free dance while teaching practical skills in the visual art genre of the weekend. Genres are acrylic painting, chalk pastel, multimedia, batiking and claywork. Individuals leave with an artpiece, a tangible, often symbolic expression of heart processing and insight.

In the loft of the studio, up a driftwood ramp, is a cozy, comforting, sacred ‘cocooning’ space. This overlooks the lake. It is here that you can consciously take a break from daily demands and allow yourself to ‘let down’ on a turkish daybed, meditate, read, make yourself a cup of tea, relax in a hammock, hike, giving yourself the space and time to just be.

Once you’ve had the opportunity to still, process and begin to rejuvenate, your creativity can begin to flow- nurturing and strengthening your core being, your soul. Bring your musical instrument, art, writing tools, a creative project. To deepen or provide grounding and direction to your experience, you may want to include a a personal counselling, mindfulness expressive arts therapy, healing arts or a Mindfulness in Motion session to your Cocooning plan.

Cocooning is about ‘being and becoming.’ Giving yourself the time and space to settle, connect in, process, heal and integrate.  It allows you to grow more fully into the wild, passionate, strong being you are at core- to develop the gift you alone are able to bring to the world.

614 Battle Street Office

I offer personal counselling, therapy and healing arts sessions at my warm and welcoming Kamloops office. I meet with all first time clients here as well as clients who are children. This space is home to the sandtray, toys, art-making materials and other tools used in child therapy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”242″ img_size=”500×400″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”243″ img_size=”500×400″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”241″ img_size=”500×400″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Child Therapy

I use Mindful Expressive Arts, the sandtray and play in combination with specialized Self Regulation Therapy techniques to support processing, rehabilitation, and emotional, cognitive and physical integration of the child. If a threatening event occurs during a child’s development, such as a difficult birth, fall or separation from a parent, trauma may occur, interfering with physical and neurological development at that stage, which can result in developmental delays and other problems. Self Regulation therapy can help improve or correct these issues.

Sandplay therapy is a creative form of psychotherapy that uses a sandbox and a large collection of miniatures to enable a child to explore, process and integrate the deeper issues.

Play is how children process and each of the methods I use offers the child verbal as well as non-verbal ways of ‘telling his/her story, ‘ expressing emotions and coming to resolution through embodied imagination, in the safety and comfort of an attuned adult.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”1139″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”738″ img_size=”225×183″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”283″ img_size=”225×183″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”284″ img_size=”225×183″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Group Therapy

Connect to core self, develop inner resources & capacity for joy

Once a week, I lead a growth group at the Shimmering Tree Kamloops space that integrates the key elements needed to feel good and maintain balance.  Learning new skills to calm our nervous systems, to fully inhabit and enjoy the wisdom of our bodies, to explore, process and express in rich new ways, will not only improve our ability to handle life’s challenges, especially after loss, trauma or overwhelm, but improve the quality of our lives.

I draw on my experience in Self Regulation, Hakomi, and Mindfulness Expressive Arts therapies, trauma sensitive yoga and Linda Graham’s applied neuroscience work to offer a fresh whole person nurturing growth experience.

Each group session we touch into, engage and develop the 5 aspects of Self:

  • physical (yoga, walking meditation, movement to music, rest & relaxation)
  • mind (learning new relevant information, physical and mental skills, discipline, mindrest, perspective on own mind and emotions, actually rewiring the brain for resiliency)
  •  essential self (self awareness, compassion, healing)
  • creative (expressing self through art, writing, dance, verbally)
  • social (engaging with other individuals in a safe, supportive, similarly focused group)

This group gives you the opportunity to nurture your whole being, to re-set, and be increasingly balanced and energized- able to be the person you want to be being throughout your week.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
